Martín Rincón Botero is a Colombian-German composer and conductor based in Lübeck.

Harmony is at the center of his work, both in his compositions and in his writing, where he explores how chords take on meaning through their color and through the relationships between their roots. Many of his works also take impulses from beyond the concert tradition, from a Colombian popular song in Jayme to an artificial language in Squalos.

He studied composition in Bogotá and with Dieter Mack in Lübeck, won the Théodore Gouvy Composition Prize in 2015, and his works have been performed in six countries by ensembles such as the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, Ensemble Volans and the Boreas Quartett Bremen.

As a conductor, he trained with Arturo Tamayo in Lugano and with Martin Sieghart, and has worked with orchestras such as the Győr Philharmonic and the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras. His conducting combines a clear gesture with a composer’s understanding of how form and meaning unfold in a score.
