Dreu (2016)
Commissioned by the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken.
Dreu (/drø:/) (2016) is derived from the Proto-Indo-European word for "tree" (*dóru, locative *dréw). The concept of the piece was that the thematic material would serve as a contrapuntal basis for new themes, which in turn would gradually become the counterpoint for yet another new theme. In this way, these themes never truly disappear; instead, they take on an accompanying role after they have already "grown," allowing the new structurally ascending themes (trunk, leafy crown) to develop in a tree-like manner from a thematic root.
Performed by: Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken.
Conductor: Peter Hirsch.
